Un-Resolutions: Creating from the Space Within
A couple of weeks ago, I shared a blog post about How being present can help you achieve your New Year’s resolutions. In it, we explored the power of slowing down, reflecting, and aligning your goals with your authentic self to create meaningful and lasting change. Today, I want to take that conversation one step further. What if, instead of simply resolving to “achieve” goals, you embraced a deeper, more transformative approach? What if resolutions weren’t about fixing or striving but about creating from a place of stillness and inner clarity? Welcome to the concept of un-resolutions—a shift from traditional goal-setting to creating from the brilliance of your true self.
Moving Beyond Goals as “To-Do” Lists
Traditional resolutions often rely on the mind’s logic to dictate what needs fixing, changing, or achieving. They tend to focus on what’s external—weight to lose, money to earn, milestones to hit. But these goals, no matter how well-intentioned, often lack a crucial ingredient: connection to the deeper self.
Un-resolutions, on the other hand, shift the focus from the external to the internal—from striving to arriving. It’s about allowing your inner self, the diamond within, to guide the process.
The Space Within: A Place of Infinite Creation
Imagine your inner being as a diamond, refracting light in countless directions. This diamond represents your essence—untouched by external circumstances, unshaken by setbacks. Its brilliance is not something you create; it’s something you reveal by turning your attention inward.
Instead of setting resolutions based on external expectations or logic, un-resolutions invite you to reside in this inner space. From here, clarity emerges, and goals align naturally with who you truly are.
Whenever the noise of external demands becomes overwhelming, return your attention to the stillness within. Picture your inner diamond and ask: How can I let my light shine today?
A Story of Creating from Within
One client of mine, J., struggled with the pressure of annual goal-setting. Every January felt like a sprint toward impossible targets. This year, we tried something new. Instead of writing down resolutions, J. resolved to spend ten minutes a day in quiet reflection, simply being present with her inner self. Within weeks, she noticed a shift. Instead of forcing progress, she allowed clarity to unfold. Her goals became less about fixing herself and more about celebrating her wholeness.
She said, “I’ve stopped trying to control every detail, and somehow, everything feels like it’s falling into place. What’s opened up are opportunities I would not have imagined with traditional goals that are limited by what’s possible”
Creating from Within: A Pathway to Fulfillment
Un-resolutions remind us that we are more than the sum of our tasks and achievements. By anchoring ourselves in the space within, we create a life that reflects our deepest truth. So, as you move through this year, ask yourself: Am I chasing external milestones, or am I creating from my inner brilliance?
Resolve to un-resolve. Turn inward. Let the light of your inner diamond refract in all its brilliance.
After all, the most meaningful resolutions are the ones that reveal the essence of who you already are.
