What are your practicing right now? - Week #26 of The Awakening Journey
Up until now, we’ve been talking about concepts and models to bring awareness to your journey. And to some extent looking at the ‘being’ aspect. We are now going to go deeper into what are the ‘doing’ things on your journey that will keep you aligned with your bigger arc, and take you to a deeper level of awakening.
Practices
We are always practicing something. Right now, at this moment you are practicing something. It might be how to sit up straight, or it might be how to slouch. You might be practicing how to avoid doing work & scrolling through social media. Or you might be practicing how to be intentional with regards to what you read & watch.
The point is, consciously or unconsciously, you are practicing right now.
Unconscious Practices
When we are not aware of what we are practicing, we can unconsciously program ourselves into unhealthy habits and create suffering for ourselves.
For example, avoiding taking out the trash to zone out to one more episode in binge-watching may cause problems with our partner.
Practices bring us closer to our Future (Self)
When we bring awareness to our practices and begin to incorporate healthy practices in an intentional way, we are taking baby steps toward our Future Self.
What you will begin to notice is, that when you bring awareness to your practices and intentionally create practices that are steps toward your Future, your doorway of awakening opens wider.
Your goals & dreams will begin to materialize with less effort and more ease.
How do you do it?
Baby steps. Start with one practice
For example, if you have a future goal of being at peace or in harmony, create a practice of spending 5 minutes in the morning doing whatever brings you peace.
I mean, why not do it, because you are practicing something anyway.
Your practice this week:
As you go through your day, make a list of all of your practices.
Notice whether this is an unconscious or conscious practice.
Draw a line down your page & on the right-hand column, make a note of how this practice aligns with your future self.
Set one new practice this week that aligns with a future goal.
Next, we will talk about Mindfulness Practices, in the meanwhile remember the present moment is where your best life happens.
